Grapefest

September was a productive month for Earigami. I set up a table and did some demos during Grapefest, the city of Grapevine's annual festival. It was nice to meet my customers, and I was able to get alot of work done in the process of demonstrating!

Back in town with new designs!

I've been away visiting family in England, Wales and France, so updates have had to wait! It was quite the experience, though it's nice to be back home and preparing for the fall term at UNT. These pretty butterfly earrings are new. They're available for purchase in both the single (shown above) and double styles. There are some beautiful new paper patterns also that you can check out at both retail locations.

New Design: Wild Strawberry Earrings

I found a really pretty design in an origami book for a strawberry water-bomb which I shrunk down and incorporated in a new pair of earrings! These were incredibly time-consuming and normally require a special kind of double-sided paper (though you can colour the leaves green after inflating the strawberry base like I did). I was really pleased with the result.

I added a second fringe of four leaves to cover the hole in the top of the strawberry. The water-bomb has four leaves that fold out of it and a hole in the top for inflating and filling with water. The second fringe when laquered helped anchor the earring wire in place.

Introduction

My name is Heather McGuire and I'm currently enrolled as a metalsmithing and jewelry major at The University of North Texas. Earigami is a business that I run out of my home. I make all pieces by hand with top quality materials and a lot of patience! I learned my first Origami folds from my Grandfather whose intricate, multi-part creations have always amazed and inspired me. I choose to miniaturize more familiar origami shapes in my earrings, but am always updating my selection to include creative new designs.
Earigami earrings are sold at both Elements of Design in Denton and Blue Moon Gallery in Grapevine. All the beautiful paper I use comes from The Paper Place in Toronto.
